It all began in 1992 - after patronizing a small mom & pop shop (Birdie’s Pizza), the owners Frank (Birdie) and Anna asked Glenn and his brother if they’d be interested in purchasing their pizzeria - one of the oldest in Fort Myers at the time.  They agreed and the couple stayed with them for five years and taught them everything they knew - passing along an already 50-year-old recipe. The two brothers ran the store together for several years soaking up all they could about the trade.

In 1998, mastering the art of pizza-making, enjoying business ownership, and newly married, Glenn left Birdie’s in the hands of his brother and opened N.Y. Pizza D-LUX (N.Y.P.D.) on Fort Myers Beach with his wife, Mary Beth. The couple created great business at the south end of Fort Myers Beach from 1998 through 2003.

In 2004, dropping the N.Y. from their name (if you know good pizza – you just know)  –    Pizza D-LUX moved inland to the San Carlos Park area off Alico Road where they spent 8 years eventually moving to their current location on the southeast corner of Daniels Parkway and Plantation Road in 2013.

Many may not know the story behind the name Pizza D-LUX. “LUX” was the nickname of Mary Beth’s father, as her maiden name was Luxeder. He was a police officer in her hometown of Barberton, Ohio for 27 years. You will notice his name carved in the shadowbox of his police memorabilia on display at the store. Hailing from Farmingdale (Long Island), NY, Glenn’s father was a 26-year veteran N.Y.P.D. officer. As a nod to their fathers, they hung their patches and mementos up in honor. Over the years, many customers have mailed or brought in patches from their hometowns. They proudly adorn the walls of the pizzeria.

While many loyal customers have found their way via New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts - you absolutely DO NOT have to be from the northeast to find great joy in the ‘za. Patrons have been enjoying this old-school traditional pizza for 30+ years and counting.

Amidst all the New York “stuff” hanging throughout the shop, you will find a few Ohio things tucked in there too. We never forget where we came from…

Pride and tradition run strong through the old-world recipes. Our homemade dough, sauce and gravy, shredded-in-house mozzarella, hand-chopped vegetables, and freshly sliced meats will draw you in with every bite and take you back to “the good ol’ days!”  While pizza reigns supreme, our made-to-order salads and heroes filled with homemade meatballs, chicken, or eggplant deserve accolades as well. Garlic knots are also a must-try item!
